Mechanical, electrical and building services for schools and education estates
ComGas installs, replaces and maintains the mechanical and electrical systems that keep school buildings warm, ventilated and safely powered — with the disruptive work programmed into holiday windows.
Primary schools across Surrey and south-west London
Plant rooms, heating, ventilation, electrical and controls
Programmed around term dates and holiday windows
Coordinated mechanical and electrical
A school boiler replacement is never just a boiler.
Replacing plant in a school pulls in gas, flues, controls, electrical supplies, builders work, weatherproofing and a commissioning record the school can keep. When those elements sit with separate trades, the programme slips and the handover paperwork arrives incomplete.
ComGas is an independent mechanical, electrical and building services contractor based in Farnham. We coordinate the gas, heating, ventilation and electrical work under one programme, with commissioning and record documentation managed as part of the overall delivery.
Work on school sites covers plant rooms and boiler replacement, LTHW heating distribution and controls, commercial gas, plumbing and hot water, ventilation and kitchen extract, electrical installation and testing, heat pumps and building management systems, planned maintenance and wider refurbishment works.

What we do in schools
The disciplines a school estate actually calls on.
Most school work falls into a handful of repeatable packages, whether it runs inside a holiday closure or in an occupied building.
Plant Rooms and Boiler Replacement
Strip-out and replacement of end-of-life plant, including gas service modifications, condensing boilers, flue design and installation, and full commissioning.
Strip-out and disposal of redundant plant room equipment
New gas-fired condensing boilers, flues and associated pipework
Pumps, pressurisation and associated plant
Pre-commission cleansing, testing and commissioning
Supplies, distribution and power to plant, together with the periodic inspection and testing a school estate needs on record.
Incoming supply upgrades, trenching and cable ducting
Distribution boards and sub-metering
Containment, wiring and power to plant, pumps and controls
Electrical installation work carried out in accordance with BS 7671 (18th Edition), with appropriate certification and documentation provided where required
A gas boiler house replaced with a heat pump, in a working primary school.
At Lowther Primary School in Barnes, the existing gas boiler arrangement was stripped out and replaced with an air source heat pump. The unit was set on a new concrete base and fitted with an acoustic enclosure to suit aesthetic and planning requirements.
A change of heat source only works if the rest of the building keeps up. ComGas replaced the heating distribution and all radiators, upgraded the incoming electrical supply with new trenching and cable ducting, added sub-metering, and installed a replacement building management system with touchscreen control for the site team.

Trend IQ4 building management system with touchscreen control
Complete heating distribution and radiator replacement
Incoming electrical supply upgrade and sub-metering
Most of the disruptive work happens when the pupils are not there.
School plant replacement is a programme problem as much as an engineering one. Plant room refurbishments on recent school projects have been completed within two to three week windows, timed to school holidays.
Programme built around term dates and holiday closures
Site rules, access and safeguarding arrangements agreed before work starts
Safe isolation of existing services, with phased reinstatement
Builders work, making good and weatherproofing included in the scope

Matt from ComGas Services UK Ltd was very professional, polite, friendly and quick installing a new shower in my bath (and at a better height for me) and a much easier press-in plug for my sink! He left the place spotless. This is the kind of service and installation people dream about - a 5 star service (see photos).

I have used Comgas twice and both times have been very happy with the service. Very friendly and honest. The most recent time, the job turned out to be a lot bigger than they initially thought but it was no issue and Paul stayed the extra time to make sure the job was done properly! He was really tidy, took a lot of care with the work that was done and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. Pleased to have found a reliable heating company!

Fantastic experience from the chaps at ComGas! Special thanks to Matt who removed an old boiler and replaced with a new energy efficient to satisfy the demands of a five bed house with a few bathrooms/baths and showers. The ComGas admin team and Lee were fantastic too on the booking and administration side of things!

Here at St Joseph's we have worked with Comgas for a number of years. They have completed big projects and undertake regular maintenance for our school. They price fairly, and their work is completed to a very high standard. All the engineers carry a DBS which makes life so much easier when trying to book an engineer visit.
On the rare occasion that we have an emergency I can trust that Lee will get one of his engineers to respond quickly and efficiently.
Nothing is too much trouble and no job is too small.

School building services questions
Frequently asked questions.
If you are planning summer works and need a scope, a survey or a budget figure, the earlier the conversation the better.
Yes, and for plant replacement that is usually the sensible approach. Recent school plant room refurbishments have been completed within two to three week windows. Booking early matters, because holiday periods are the busiest time of year for this type of work.
Do you work in occupied school buildings?
Yes. Where work cannot wait for a holiday, the sequence, isolation plan, access arrangements and site rules are agreed with the site team before work starts, and services are reinstated in phases.
Do you handle both the mechanical and the electrical work?
Yes. ComGas is a mechanical, electrical and building services contractor, so gas, heating, ventilation and electrical work sit under one programme, with a single commissioning and handover record.
What kind of schools do you work with?
Most of our published school work is primary schools and school estates across Surrey and south-west London, both directly for schools and alongside main contractors on school sites. We can also support colleges, academies and other education estates with mechanical, electrical and building-services requirements, and every enquiry is assessed on the building, the scope and the programme.
Can you support a school moving away from gas?
Yes. At a primary school we replaced a gas boiler arrangement with an air source heat pump, including the acoustic enclosure, heating distribution, electrical capacity upgrade and building management controls needed to make it work.
Do you work alongside main contractors?
Yes. On a RAAC remediation project we isolated, adapted and reinstated the mechanical and electrical services around a structural steel installation, and completed two weeks ahead of programme so the main contractor could hand over early.
Do you support schools beyond maintenance and project work?
ComGas believes long-term school maintenance relationships should create value beyond the plant room. Depending on the size and scope of the agreement, we may work with schools on agreed initiatives that directly benefit pupils and the wider school community. At All Hallows Catholic School in Farnham, that included sponsoring football, basketball and netball kit for teams in Years 7 to 11. Any arrangement of this kind is discussed and agreed with the school individually.
Planning summer works, or dealing with plant that will not last another winter?
Tell us the school, the building and what you already know about the plant. We can arrange a survey, produce a scope and give you a realistic programme for the next holiday window.
