Pump Installations

Pump Installations

From heating circulation pumps to booster and drainage pumps, ComGas surveys existing performance and installs or replaces commercial pumps for offices, schools, care settings and other commercial buildings across Surrey and surrounding counties.

  • Circulation, booster & drainage pumps
  • Performance assessed before specification
  • Heating & plumbing circuit coverage
  • Coordinated with wider works
General pump installation, sized to the actual circuit

A pump that is the wrong size causes problems long after installation.

Commercial buildings rely on pumps in more places than is often obvious — circulating hot water and heating around a building, boosting mains water pressure to upper floors, and moving drainage or surface water where gravity alone cannot. This page covers general pump installation and replacement across plumbing and heating circuits. Where a pump is specifically part of a water-pressure-boosting package rather than a single circulation or transfer pump, that sits within our Booster Sets scope, which we can discuss separately; and where sealed heating-circuit pressure is maintained by a dedicated device rather than a pump, that is covered by our Pressurisation Units service.

A pump sized incorrectly for its circuit — whether over- or under-specified — tends to cause ongoing problems: excess noise and energy use, poor circulation at the far end of a circuit, or premature wear that leads to early failure. We assess the existing circuit, or the design if one has already been produced, before specifying a replacement or new installation, rather than substituting an existing pump on a like-for-like basis without checking whether it was ever correctly matched to the system.

ComGas installs and replaces commercial pumps within plumbing and heating circuits for buildings across Surrey and surrounding counties, coordinating this work with wider plumbing, heating or plant room projects where relevant.

Water Booster & Transfer Pumps

Pumps that boost or transfer water within plumbing systems, distinct from a dedicated water-pressure-boosting booster set package.

  • Transfer pumps between storage and distribution
  • Boost pumps for individual outlets or risers
  • Existing water pressure assessed before specification
  • Booster sets scoped separately where a full package is needed

Drainage & Surface Water Pumps

Pumps moving drainage or surface water where gravity fall alone is not available or sufficient.

  • Drainage pumps for below-ground or restricted-fall areas
  • Surface water pump installation and replacement
  • Coordinated with our commercial drainage work
  • Access for future maintenance considered in the specification

Performance Review & Replacement

Assessing an existing pump's performance against its circuit before deciding whether replacement, or a different specification, is the right next step.

  • Existing pump performance reviewed against the circuit
  • Correct sizing confirmed before any replacement is specified
  • Findings explained clearly before work is agreed
  • Replacement sequenced to minimise disruption to the system

Planned. Professional. Practical.

How we approach a pump installation

Assess the circuit, size the pump, install, then confirm performance.

Before specifying any pump, we assess the circuit it will serve — pipe lengths, fittings, height to be overcome and the flow rate actually required — rather than assuming a like-for-like replacement is automatically correct. Where an existing pump is being replaced because it has failed or is underperforming, we consider whether the original specification was right for the circuit in the first place.

Installation is coordinated with any related heating, plumbing or drainage works, and sequenced around your operations where the building is occupied. Once installed, we check the pump's performance against the circuit before handover, so any imbalance is picked up before it becomes an ongoing problem.

  • Circuit assessed before any pump is specified
  • Sizing based on actual flow requirement, not a like-for-like assumption
  • Installation coordinated with related heating or plumbing works
  • Work sequenced around occupied or operational buildings
  • Pump performance checked against the circuit before handover
  • Findings and completed scope confirmed on handover

What we consider before any pump work

Access, noise and the wider circuit all shape the specification.

Pumps often sit in plant rooms or risers with limited access, and noise or vibration can be a genuine concern in occupied buildings such as offices, schools or care settings. We consider access for future maintenance, noise transmission and how the pump interacts with the rest of the circuit — including any controls or pressurisation equipment already in place — before finalising a specification.

  • Access for future maintenance considered at specification stage
  • Noise and vibration transmission assessed for occupied buildings
  • Coordination with existing heating controls and pressurisation units
  • Electrical supply and isolation confirmed before installation
  • Coordination with other trades on a wider project
  • Scope confirmed and agreed before work begins
Discuss Your Pump Requirement

Every pump installation is scoped to the specific circuit and building. We assess actual flow and access requirements rather than applying a standard specification regardless of the installation.

Commercial pump installation FAQs

Questions about commercial pump installation and replacement

Common questions about pump sizing, replacement and how this service relates to booster sets and pressurisation units.

Talk to the pump installation team
Is this the same as a booster set installation?

Not necessarily. This page covers general circulation, transfer and drainage pump installation. A booster set is a specific water-pressure-boosting package, which we scope separately — let us know if that's what you need and we can advise on the right approach.

Is this the same as a pressurisation unit?

No. A pressurisation unit maintains pressure in a sealed heating circuit and is a distinct piece of equipment from a circulation pump, even though both often sit in the same plant room. See our dedicated Pressurisation Units page for that specific service.

Can you just replace our existing pump like-for-like?

We can, but we assess the circuit first to confirm the original specification was actually correct. If the existing pump was over- or under-sized, a like-for-like replacement simply repeats the same issue, so we'll flag that before quoting.

Why is our pump noisy or vibrating?

This can result from an incorrectly sized pump, air in the system, worn components, or how the pump is mounted and connected. We assess this as part of any survey before recommending replacement or remedial work.

Can pump replacement be combined with a wider heating or plumbing project?

Yes. Pump work is frequently part of a larger heating or plumbing project, or a plant room upgrade, and we coordinate the pump scope with that wider work so it is delivered as one sequenced project.

Do you work on drainage and surface water pumps as well as heating pumps?

Yes. Alongside heating circulation and water booster pumps, we install and replace drainage and surface water pumps where gravity fall alone is not available, coordinating this with our wider commercial drainage work.

Replacing a failed pump, or reviewing performance across a circuit?

Tell us about the circuit involved, the symptoms you've noticed, and any access or timescale constraints. We can advise on the right approach and arrange a survey where appropriate.
