ComGas delivered a complete water-boosting and hot-water plant upgrade at Bourne Club, supporting new changing and shower facilities with an accumulator-based boosted-water system, twin high-recovery unvented cylinders and a dedicated Vaillant system boiler.
The installation of new changing and shower facilities at Bourne Club created increased demand on the site’s existing water infrastructure. ComGas was appointed to upgrade the water-boosting and hot-water plant, replacing outdated equipment and creating a modern system designed to support multiple outlets during busy periods.
The works combined boosted water storage, high-recovery hot-water generation, new boiler plant and extensive new copper distribution pipework within the club’s plant and loft areas.
The challenge
The existing installation was not suited to the increased demand created by the new changing and shower facilities. Water pressure and available flow during periods of simultaneous use were key considerations, while elements of the existing hot-water plant and distribution infrastructure also required replacement.
The new arrangement therefore needed to address water boosting, hot-water recovery and distribution as one coordinated system, while providing a plant layout that could be monitored, isolated and maintained effectively in the future.


The solution
ComGas installed a new accumulator-based boosting arrangement comprising two accumulator vessels and a mains charging pump. The system provides stored boosted-water capacity to support the available pressure and flow when several outlets are operating at the same time.
Hot water is provided by two 300-litre high-recovery unvented cylinders, supported by a new Grundfos secondary circulation pump and a dedicated Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 30kW system boiler.
The wider installation included substantial new copper hot and cold distribution pipework, isolation valves, controls, monitoring points and carefully supported plant connections. The services were arranged with future inspection and maintenance in mind.


Scope of works
- Existing plant removal — redundant water and hot-water plant decommissioned and removed, including outdated water-storage and distribution equipment and the existing faulty gas-fired hot-water equipment
- Water boosting system — two accumulator vessels and a mains charging pump installed to support periods of simultaneous water demand
- Hot-water storage — two 300-litre high-recovery unvented cylinders installed with associated safety controls and discharge arrangements
- Boiler installation — Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 30kW system boiler installed to serve the upgraded hot-water plant, including vertical flue arrangement, magnetic protection and condensate connection
- Secondary circulation — new Grundfos secondary hot-water circulation pump installed as part of the upgraded distribution arrangement
- Copper distribution — hot and cold distribution pipework substantially renewed using supported copper pipework, isolation valves and appropriate plant connections
- Controls and monitoring — controls, thermostats and monitoring points incorporated to assist operation, servicing and temperature monitoring
- Commissioning — new water services flushed and disinfected, and the plant commissioned on completion

The result
The completed installation provides Bourne Club with a substantially upgraded water and hot-water plant arrangement designed around the increased demand from its changing and shower facilities.
Accumulator storage supports available water pressure and flow during periods of higher demand, while the twin high-recovery cylinders and dedicated Vaillant boiler provide the site’s upgraded hot-water generation and storage.
The extensive new copper distribution work, isolation points, controls and clearly arranged plant also create a cleaner and more serviceable installation for future maintenance.
