Project Overview

Hatch Mill Care Home, Farnham, Surrey – Commercial Boiler Replacement including cascade plant installation, plantroom refurbishment and LTHW system integration.

Comgas Services UK Ltd were appointed to undertake the replacement and upgrade of the heating system at Hatch Mill Care Home in Farnham, Surrey. The project focused on improving system efficiency, reliability and long-term performance through the installation of a new cascade boiler plant and associated plantroom upgrades. All works were carefully delivered within a live care environment, ensuring continuity of heating and hot water services for residents and staff throughout the project.

Scope of Works

  • Careful strip-out and disposal of existing boilers and redundant plantroom equipment.
  • Supply and installation of new high-efficiency commercial boilers configured in a cascade arrangement.
  • Installation of prefabricated low loss header and distribution pipework for LTHW heating circuits.
  • Modifications and connections to existing plantroom pipework including flow and return integration.
  • Installation of new flue systems and condensate discharge pipework.
  • Integration with existing pumps, controls and distribution systems.
  • Pipework insulation installed to improve energy efficiency and system performance.
  • Associated electrical works completed to support new plant installation.
  • Full system flushing, water treatment and commissioning carried out prior to handover.

Project Delivery

The project was delivered within a live care home environment requiring careful planning and coordination. Works were phased to maintain continuous heating and hot water services, with temporary provisions implemented where necessary. Close liaison with site management ensured minimal disruption to residents, staff and daily operations, while maintaining programme efficiency and high-quality standards throughout.

Health & Safety

Working within an occupied care facility required strict adherence to health and safety protocols. Comprehensive risk assessments and method statements were implemented for all stages of the works, with particular focus on resident safety, access control and safe working practices. All activities were carefully managed to ensure a safe environment for vulnerable occupants, staff and operatives.

Outcome

The project was successfully completed and commissioned, delivering a modern, efficient and reliable heating system. The new cascade boiler installation provides improved performance, redundancy and energy efficiency, while successfully integrating with the existing plant to ensure consistent heating and hot water delivery throughout the care home.
